This case concerns a rare sudden cardiac deathcharacterized by macroscopic and microscopic post-mortem findings ofhypertrophic cardiomyopathy and polyarteritis nodosa. A complete autopsy wascarried out, and histological and histochemical methods were employed. Thecause of death was acute multifocal ischemic myocitolitic damage caused by bothmyocardial structural alteration attributable to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy(widespread interstitial fibrosis and multifocal myocyte disarray) and coronaryarteritis attributable to polyarteritis nodosa. This is the first case in whichthe cause of death was attributed to both diseases.
