EVALUATION OF THE EFFICACY OF CALENDULA OFFICINALIS TINCTURE IN SURGICAL WOUND CARE TREATMENT 0 By Edoardo Raposio et al. on December 30, 2007 Capsula eBurnea The aim of this study was to compare wound care treatment with Iodine solution against tincture made of a natural plant, Calendula officinalis. This plant is famous for the anti-flogistic and anti- bacterial action. We have selected 28 patients, randomized in two arms of treatment: arm-A (medication with Betadine®); arm B (medication with Calendula officinalis). We have measured wound areas at the 3rd and15th day of medications by a digital photo system and the software Adobe Pho- toshop. To evaluate the flogistic parameters, we have used the same software, considering different colour parameters. Statistic analyses have shown a significant decrease of both areas and flogistic para- meters in both arms of treatment In conclusion, the Calendula officinalis has shown re-epithelizing anti-flogistic ef- fects, without damage or obstacle of the healing process.
